Sandalwood can successfully be raised in the dry zone of Sri Lanka...

We, Sadaharitha, as a dedicated plantation company for the development of science, facilitated another Sandalwood research project conducted by Dr. Upul Subasinghe, a Senior Lecturer of the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He works in Sandalwood research field with a team of Australian Scientists and continuously seeks for new knowledge in Sandalwood.

Dr. Subasinghe conducts Sandalwood field trials in Tangalle and Thanamalvila since 2010 November. According to his findings, Sandalwood can successfully be established as plantations in the drier parts of the country irrespective of the well-known sandalwood region of Beragala-Welimada-Badulla area. This finding has given an enormous encouragement for us to establish Sandalwood plantations in the areas such as Tangalle, which we already started. The following images illustrate the success of those trials.

Further, Dr. Subasinghe appreciated the support of Mr. Janath Erandaka, Manager, Plantations, Mr. Sumith Wickramarathne, Mr. Nihal Wijesinghe, Mr. Amila Madhawa, Mr. Udyanga Liyanage and Mr. Harshana Hiripitiya - our Members of the Plantations Staff of the South Region.
