In Charge of the Government Sandalwood Plantations of Western Australia visited our plantations and amazed...

Mr. Benjamin Sawyer, Manager of Arid Forests and In Charge of Government Sandalwood Plantations of Western Australia visited our sandalwood plantations and teak plantations of Diyaluma, Beragala and Tangalle on 30th and 31st of October. He also closely works with Wescorp Sandalwood Pty Ltd of Asutralia which supplies 60% of the world's sandalwood demand. Mr. Sawyer was the key note speaker of the 16th International Forestry and Environment Symposium held on 28 and 29 of October by the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. As Mr. Sawyer had information about Sadaharitha plantations by Mr. Sathis Nawarathne (Chairman), Mr. H.K. Rohana (CED) and Dr. Upul Subasinghe (Consultant, Plantations) on their visit to Perth in June this year, he was eagerly waiting to visit our plantations.

In his speech to the Sadaharitha Staff on 02nd November at Sasakawa he mentioned that it was amazing to see the growth attained by sandalwood trees within the first year. He further added that our sandalwood plantations can match any of the best Indian sandalwood plantations managed in the world, especially those have been established in Kununurra of Western Australia. Mr. Sawyer also said that, the growth of nearly three years old teak in Tangalle Estate is the best growth of a timber species he has seen.
