Sadaharitha enters into growing traditional rice varieties...

As a company with a significant concern in protecting our tradition, Sadaharitha decided to enhance traditional rice farming. In accordance with that, we started farming Suvandel rice variety in the areas where teak cannot be planted in Puttlam and Kumaragama Estates. In order to increase the quality, this was done as organic farming so that, the users can have quality, chemical-free rice.

The name Suvandel was given to this rice variety due to its very high aroma which may be higher than most of the Basmathi varieties. Therefore it is used in ceremonial occasions to prepare the traditional Sri Lankan Milk Rice. In addition to that, this aroma enhances the appetite. According to the available publications, Suvandel is known to enhance the skin complexion, vocal clarity and to control diabetes.

As the productivity was less than the demand, Sadaharitha Plantations Limited decided to sell the first harvest among its staff. Still we could not supply the required amount. However, we will be in a position to let our customers to consume organically farmed traditional rice varieties via the market networks in near future.
