We exceeded our annual compost manufacturing target in the teak plantations.

Since last year, the Plantations Division of the Sadaharitha Plantations Limited started manufacturing compost in large scale using scientific methodologies. It is a heavily used substrate in teak plantations to enrich soil, to retain moisture and to reduce the use of inorganic fertiliser. So far, we did this activity in two plantation sites, i.e., Kumaragama (in the South Region) and Puttlam (in the Puttlam Region) and this year, the targets were 500 MT and 650 MT respectively. At the end of the process, now we are very proud to state that, we exceeded the target by manufacturing 630 MT in Kumaragama and 670 in Puttlam. As this exercise allowed us to manufacture the best quality compost in a low cost, we are seeking the possibility in producing compost in all our teak estates to be self-sufficient.
