Sri lanka has taken steps to control the global warming by accepting the environmental friendly technologies and promoting the Green Economy concept.

The atmospheric temperature has started increasing in a significant manner due to the industrialization and deforestation. Due to the gases (such as carbon dioxide, methane) which can absorb the heat, released to the atmosphere by the above reasons, the atmospheric temperature has gone up. Therefore the entire world started experiencing the disasters such as prolonging drought periods, heavy rains which cause flood and landslides, melting of ice glaciers, increase of sea water level etc.

Since the mankind is responsible for this disaster, the Minister emphasised that, it is the duty of the mankind to stop or reduce it. He was proud to say that Sri lanka has taken steps to control the global warming by accepting the environmental friendly technologies and promoting the Green Economy concept which is entirely a new concept to the world. Through the Green Economy, the Minister expects to promote alternative non-polluting energy (i.e., solar, wind, tidal etc.) and to increase the opportunities of making the living of human being by appreciating the nature. For this reason, more forestry projects will be promoted and the values of timber are emphasised with the non-use values such as carbon sinks, aesthetic and recreation enhancing resources rather than the use values such as timber and fuelwood. He further appreciated the steps taken by the Sadaharitha Plnatations Limited to establish the forestry projects to enhance the greenary in Sri Lanka.
